Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been dragged to court for delivering a speech in English at the 70th United Nations General Assembly session. A contempt petition against him is filled by a Pakistani resident Zahid Ghani in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
What is the issue?
According to the petition, Prime minister of Pakistan has flouted the rule by addressing the conference in English and he should be prosecuted and disqualified from the member of the national assembly.
The petitioner recounted the September 8 Supreme Court verdict, which has directed the federal and provincial governments to use Urdu for official and other purposes. The petition also alleged that many dignitaries from other countries have addressed the conference in their regional language.
