Noted Malayalam film actress Kalpana Ranjani died on 25 January 2016 in Hyderabad. She won the ‘Best Supporting Actress award’ for her performance in the film Thanichalla Njan at the 60th National Film Awards in 2012.

2- The International Olympic Committee has set new guidelines for transgender Olympic athletesOlympic

The International Olympic Committee has eased the guidelines for transgender athletes so they could participate in competition without undergoing genital reconstruction surgery. As per the old guidelines, transgenders had to undergo sex reassignment surgery followed by at least two years of hormone therapy before competing at the Olympics.

3-‘Jihadi Jack’ is reportedly the first white British boy to join ISIS

The first white British man has been publicly identified as joining ISIS in Syria. 20-year-old ‘Jihadi Jack’ converted to Islam while living in Oxford, and attended the Madina Masjid mosque in the city.

6th National Voters’ Day (NVD) has been observed across the country by the Election Commission of India. The theme for the 6th National Voters’ Day is ‘Inclusive and Qualitative Participation’. The Commission’s objective is to increase enrolment of voters.

6-India-France agreement on 36 Rafale jetsRafale fighter jets

India and France have signed an MoU for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets. The agreement was signed in the presence of PM Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande. Each Rafale fighter jet will reportedly cost India over ₹800 crore.

A new language system known as Pushkarasani of the ancient and glorious Gandhara civilisation, which flourished in the northern areas of Pakistan and eastern parts of Afghanistan in the early first millennium BC to the 11th century AD, has been discovered.
