Taking a giant leap forward, researchers in the US have modified pig genes to enable their organs to be transplanted into humans. Now pigs’ organ can easily be transplanted into human body.
What was the problem?
Porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV), a virus which found in pig genome, is caused diseases in human recipients, if transplantation has been done. Now researchers have successfully disabled this virus effect so they can conduct the transplantation.
What are the benefits of this research?
Pigs livers, hearts, kidney are close in size to human body parts and now they can easily be transplanted to human body.
