36 dogs have been selected for the parade among 1,200 Labradors and German Shepherds. The dog squad of Indian Army has saved numerous lives of soldiers in counter-terrorism operations. These dogs are trained in sniffing bombs, tracking enemies, locating secret places and fetching evidence. Army had already come under heavy criticism when it was revealed via RTI that dogs were put to sleep after their retirement.Dog1

However the Army has stopped further killing of ageing dogs except for those suffering incurable, terminal diseases and injuries.
