An Australian University student has died after falling 300 metres down Footstool mountain on New Zealand’s South Island.
What the actual story is?
Rescue teams found 28-year-old Nicola Anne Andrews in a critical condition when they responded to an emergency location beacon set off by fellow climbers on the Eugenie Glacier. She was with three other experienced climbers when she fell from the slopes of The Footstool, a 2764m tall peak. She was airlifted to the Aoraki Mount Cook Search and Rescue Base, and died shortly after arriving. Police said the woman and her climbing party were all experienced and well equipped, and weather conditions prior to the fall had been good.
Initial police investigations suggest that the fall was an accident.
