France will not ban the Tor anonymity network or public Wi-Fi, despite requests from police, Prime Minister Manuel Valls said.
What the actual story is?
Le Monde reported an internal law enforcement document proposing to restrict freedom of Internet access ostensibly as a way to fight terrorism. “A ban of Wi-Fi is not a course of action envisaged. Internet is a freedom, is an extraordinary means of communication between people, it is a benefit to the economy.” Prime Minister responded.
Authorities in the E.U. and U.S. are increasingly raising the issue of encryption.
