Living in the suicide capital of world


India is on the verge of becoming the suicide capital of the world. In the last few decades, the numbers of suicides have tripled in the age group of 15-24 years, which accounts for nearly a third of the global total death and it increasing on alarming rate. Mental disorder like depression is the primary cause for these suicides.

What the researchers found?

The study finds that over 90 percent of deaths caused due to various types of depression. More than 40 percent suicides among males and 56 percent of suicides in females are in the age group of 15-24 happen due to suicide.

Why suicidal tendency is increasing?

The increases in suicides are due to increasing stress levels, lack of family support. It also is happening due to many socioeconomic factors which are compelling youths to take away their lives. Lack of treatment and counseling are other factors which are required to tackle this situation.
