The film Concussion, which is set to debut on Christmas has sparked controversy as people alleged that it unfairly portrays the NFL’s long-term stance on brain trauma.
What the actual story is?
Head injuries are a serious cause for concern in the sport. The movie Concussion is set to spread that message to the masses. The central character in the film, forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu which is played by Will Smith exaggerated his role in both discovering and naming chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the disease that inspired the film. The trailer for the movie includes a clip that has Smith, as Dr. Omalu, saying, “I found a disease that no one has ever seen.”
Dr.Omalu is widely hailed for his groundbreaking work studying the brain of Steelers Hall of Fame center Mike Webster.
