FIFA’s ethics committee has asked for sanctions against Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini after finishing investigations. Both were blamed to financial wrongdoing.
What the issue is?
FIFA ethics investigators called on Saturday for sanctions against president Sepp Blatter and European soccer boss Michel Platini and they will now face bans. It has also dashed the hope for Platini’s bid to succeed Blatter as head of world soccer’s governing body. The case centers on a $2 million payment of FIFA money, which Blatter approved for Platini in 2011 as backdated salary. However, both deny wrongdoing, though they acknowledge there was no written contract.
Both are challenging their interim 90-day bans at the Court of Arbitration for Sport which is expected to fast-track their cases.
