1-Shyam Benegal Committee constituted to revamp Censor Board

Union Government has constituted Shyam Benegal Committee for a holistic interpretation of the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. The committee was formed with an aim to revamp Censor Board of India.

2-Direct transfer for kerosene subsidy from Aprilkerosene

The Government has announced the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for kerosene from April 1. Aimed at better targeting of subsidies, the government already provides DBT for LPG users.

3-Comet Catalina  makes once-in-a-lifetime appearance

A double-tailed comet named Catalina, with a greenish glow, is currently passing by the inner solar system for the first and the last time ever. The comet is expected to reach its closest to Earth on January 17.

 8-Creator of Debian Linux OS dies aged 42

Ian Murdock, the creator of Debian operating system, died at the age of 42 on Monday.  He reportedly committed suicide after he tweeted about taking his life alleging police brutality.

9-Scientists complete 7th row of periodic table

The seventh row of the periodic table was completed on Wednesday after the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) announced the discovery of element 113 and claimed discovery of elements 115, 117 and 118.

10-Singer Natalie Cole dies at 65
