1-Mutant mosquitoes to be deployed to stop Zika outbreak in Brazil

Millions of genetically modified mosquitoes would be released in parts of Piracicaba city in Southern Brazil to suppress the wild mosquito population responsible for Zika and Dengue outbreaks. Oxitec, a company that breeds genetically modified mosquitoes, is opening a factory in Piracicaba to produce millions of genetically modified mosquitoes.

Indian-origin physicist Professor Chennupati Jagadish has been awarded the Australia’s highest civilian honour, the Companion of the Order of Australia. The award was given for his contribution in physics and engineering.

6- The oldest dinosaur fossil discovered in this century found in Gujaratdinosaur

A team of geologists and paleontologists have found a 135 million-year-old dinosaur fossil in Kutch, Gujarat. Scientists believe that the dinosaur was an herbivore with at least 10 to 15 metre in length.

7-Japan is building the World’s largest floating solar power plantSolar Power plant

Japna is buiding the World’s Largest Floating Solar Plant. The 13.7 megawatt (MW) floating solar power plant will be built on the Yamakura Dam reservoir. The project is expected to generate an estimated 16,170 MWh of electricity per year.

8-Denmark named least corrupt country in wordDenmark

Denmark remained at the top of Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index as the country perceived as least corrupt. North Korea and Somalia remained at the bottom with unchanged scores of 8 in top list of corrupt countries. India was placed at the 76th.

9-Brazil to deploy army in fight against virus

Brazil’s government will deploy 220,000 soldiers in its fight against mosquitoes spreading the Zika virus.The soldiers will go from home to home handing out leaflets on how to avoid the spread of Zika. No treatment or vaccine is available yet for virus infection.

10-Aditya -L1 First Indian mission to study the Sun

Aditya-1 was meant to observe only the solar corona. The Aditya-1 mission was conceived as a 400kg class satellite carrying one payload. It was planned to launch in a 800 km low earth orbit. The project is approved and the satellite will be launched during 2019 – 2020 timeframe by PSLV-XL from Sriharikota.
