South Korea has retaliated at North Korea with powerful blasts of pop music.
On occasion of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s birthday, Seoul fired up banks of high-wattage speakers along its border to broadcast criticism of Mr. Kim’s leadership which also played South Korean hit songs. One chart-topping track from boyband Big Bang was a tale of romantic escapism. Another song is a ballad by a middle-aged female singer about living for 100 years.
The idea of living to 100 would be highly unusual for North Koreans because of poor nutrition and health care, according to United Nations data.
