For the third consecutive time, US chemical giant Dow Chemical has failed to turn up before a court in Bhopal in connection with 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy case.
What the actual story is?
Dow, which owns Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), ignored summons of the district court in Bhopal and failed to appear before it for the third time. Judicial Magistrate First Rajesh Nandeshwar posted the next hearing in the case on July 13, 2016, and also slapped a show-cause notice on Dow over a clutch of petitions filed by NGOs working for the gas tragedy survivors.
Methyl Isocyanate gas leaked from Union Carbide’s Bhopal factory on the night of December 3, 1984, killing nearly 25,000 people.
